How to Replace Windshield Wipers on a Car

How to replace your windshield wipers. This is the most common style, you find some slight variations between vehicles. I always like to have the wipers ready before removing the old wipers. #mechanictips #autorepair #automaintenance

As you can see on this particular model of wiper, a cap opens and this is where the wiper arm is slid into.

Using a small pry tool, pop up the clip on the old wiper. Styles will vary, some have a tab on the bottom of the hook that is pushed in to remove the wiper from the arm.

Push the wiper towards the pivot point and remove it. Always set the arm down so it doesn’t smack down from the spring tension and break the glass.

Lock in the new wiper, you should hear a click. Then close that retaining cap.

Do the same for the other side. Pop up that retaining cap.

Remove the wiper. I am holding the arm in place so it doesn’t smack down.

Install the new wiper.

And then close that retaining cap.
