Why are people saying Gorilla's can't weigh 400 pounds. The heaviest gorilla on record was a male named "Tambo, " who lived in the 1970s at the Philadelphia Zoo. Tambo weighed approximately 1, 025 pounds (465 kg). His immense size made him an exceptional example of the species. While wild gorillas typically weigh between 300 to 500 pounds, the largest individuals in captivity can exceed those weights due to ample food and lack of natural predators. Just check the records instead of pretending to know and copying what everybody else says. Off course this doesn't necessarily mean a gorilla would win as cats can take down much larger pray like buffalo. A grizzly would have more chance against a lion as it has the killer instinct a gorilla lacks. If the gorilla as defending it's family and the lion didn't get a bite on its neck straight away, then a blow from the gorilla could possibly put the lion out of action. It depends onq circumstances. Edit: Bili apes that are bigger than chimps and more aggressive but not as big as gorilla's have been known to kill and eat lions. Also this fight is unrealistic, the gorilla would not slowly walk upto the lion but charge the lion. The first instinct of a lion would be to back away as it is not use to being charges as its an apex predator. A well fed captive lion would not have the level of killer instinct as a hungry wild lion, and may think it's not worth the trouble. Cats have an instinct to chase what runs away from them. If an animal as small as a honey badger runs at a lion they first back off. If something the size of a male silverback charged at it defending its young and females, its first instinct would be to crap itself.
