Emmanuel Macron warns 'Europe could die' without stronger defences

French President Emmanuel Macron has called for stronger and more integrated European defences.

On Thursday, Emmanuel Macron said Europe is not currently equipped to deal with the military, economic and trade risks that the continent is and will face in the future.

“There is a risk our Europe could die. We are not equipped to face the risks,” Mr Macron said during his speech at Sorbonne University in Paris on Thursday.

The French President’s remarks come following America's $90 billion aid package to Ukraine the French President said Europe mustn't rely entirely on the US for protection.

With three years left of his second term, Macron outlined his vision for a more assertive European Union on the global stage.
