Just make sure the motor isn’t over amping.

Had a tech who did that and didn’t think to check the amps and it caught on fire. Was a big mess.

Just a little FYI. Some places have a building code that forbid use of electric motors without a soft starter or vfd. Be sure to check out the code requirements before you do electric work... If you have a bad VFD you replace it with a similar VFD like a electrician would do...

Find a company willing to invest in you, you definitely want the classroom and field training. The classroom is going to teach you the principles and the field training will teach you how to apply what you're learning. You'll be amazed and wowed. Another advantage of field traing is you will learn techniques from all the mechanics you've worked with over the years and your technique will be a combination of all of them. Also believe it or not their are things you already know or things you learn in school and bring with you that will teach all of us seasoned mechanics. Best advice I can give you is keep an open mind and be prepared to absorb knowledge as well as pass that knowledge on. Good luck on a very rewarding career.

I worked for a company that stamped parts. Oil injection for stamping parts. The vfd would get full of gook Overheat air wash it put rag on top of your head gunk and goo comes out. After cooldown reset back in business.

Don't forget about the motor overload or lack of one
Install fuses where the vfd fuses were rated for the motor amps on the equipment tag not the motor tag.

I’ve had to do that on a bunch of carrier rtu units lately.

When doing this, maybe consider a starter box equipped with overload protection,

Hopefully if the VAV boxes start shutting down the static has somewhere to go. Nice vid.

Yo just a heads up those type of drives are funky. If you change certain parameters you have to turn the power off then back on again for the changes to take effect. Spent about 2 hours with tech support finding out that little nugget of useless information

One of the many commercial tricks, right up there with the good old thermostat in the return😂. Be careful if this is hooked up to a vav system you need lock all the dampers open. With vvt systems it doesn't matter because the bypass dampers will actuat according to static pressure.

Only thing I don't like is placement, contactor lugs are exposed and horizontal, not the safest way to do that. Somewhere in the control cab is best, other than that, vertically on the blower section wall would be better, potentially with a "custom" shield of some sort.

you should probably place the VFD in a controlled environment where it is not baking hot because of the heat exchanger in like inside a control panel or something

I can't find the video on. How you did the swap out on the vfd to the contactor Teddy.

Good job
Must learn how to Improvize.

BTW the drive also serves as your motor’s protection

Ok to do assuming the unit is not a single zone vav or a multi zone vav piece of equipment.
