When working with complex numbers, it's often useful to express them in the form a+bi, where a and b are real numbers and i is the imaginary unit (i.e., the square root of -1). This form is also known as the standard form of a complex number.
Most modern calculators have a built-in complex number mode that allows you to perform arithmetic operations on complex numbers in the a+bi form. In this mode, you can enter complex numbers using the following syntax: a+bi, where a and b are real numbers and i is denoted by the "i" key on the calculator.
To add or subtract complex numbers, simply add or subtract their real and imaginary parts separately. To multiply complex numbers, use the FOIL method (i.e., First, Outer, Inner, Last) that you learned in algebra class. To divide complex numbers, multiply both the numerator and the denominator by the complex conjugate of the denominator, which is obtained by changing the sign of the imaginary part.
By using the a+bi form and the built-in complex number mode of your calculator, you can perform various calculations involving complex numbers quickly and accurately.
