Easy instructional video on how to make a small forge out of a soup can and other materials you may have around the garage. Reaches over 2000 degrees. Hot enough to make steel bendable. Great for making small tools and knives.

FINALLY! A practical small forge that doesn't require hard-to-find fire bricks and can be elevated easily. I might even be able to adapt this design even smaller to heat up tiny tool tips in my studio! Super idea! Thanks!

Nice!

Just FYI for those trying this: I would definitely fire it up outside the first time, to burn the Zinc layer off the pipe nipple. I've been Zinc-sick before, and it's no fun.

Great video! Great project and excellent video skills. I soooo appreciate not having to watch you screw the nuts and screws. The concise video with just the information, like you made, would save so much time on Youtube! Thank you!

I have a charcoal forge, but I am making a small gas forge for small jobs, tossing up between high temp wool for the interior lining or something like the plaster of Paris that you used. Plenty of great ideas.

Clever & cheap!

A couple of modification ideas:
1.  You can heat more of your longer stock metal by making your forge with an opening on the closed end of the can/forge.
2.  You could make your forge into a smelter by making removable front & back doors on your can.  You may or may not need to include a small chimney in your can to optimize heating while the doors are closed--or, you might just be able to make a vent on one of the doors to ensure an optimal heat flow.
