Lost Foam Easter Bunny Casting

preview_player
Показать описание
Passing the time in isolation by having fun transforming more cheap styrofoam junk into bronze and aluminum "art".
- carbon monoxide reading in the foundry
- loose sand cores with no binders
- using paste wax to smooth out hollow styrofoam patterns
- lost foam sand float defects - more likely with bronze than aluminum
- restoring cast surface finish after chasing the casting

That came out very nice, I have a few nice Styrofoam pieces I want to cast using Aluminium, your method of hollowing it out seems to work well and saves a lot of metal 👊👍

Very nice! I think the surface you ended up with is much nicer than a smooth shiny surface.

Very nice! I'm interested in learning casting. This was very informative.

It does best if the metal can only flow down.

So you took the easter bunny, ripped out it's insides, poured molten hot metal onto it a few times, and now it's frozen in carbonite. I know of one person not getting a basket this year, lol.

Looks good man, and the paste was looks like it worked the treat.

Cool stuff

Have you considered coating with gyprock plaster before pouring ?
Better finish and less clean up...

Have you tried coating it with plaster or some other very thin coating to try to keep the sand from melting into the finished product at all? It's on my list to attempt, but time, effort, etc just hasn't made it to the top of the list yet.

Love the video! I didn't know you could use dry sand with lost foam casting! Can you tell me a little bit about it? I thought that wetness of the sand and the ability to pack it tight was what held the sand in place instead of collapsing in itself when pouring metal, have you had that issue at all with the dry sand? also how fine do you sift it?

Hello. I have to melt 1 gram of iron in 300 grams of copper. Do you know a way to do it? My oven can reach 1250 ° C and is electric.

Nice! I wouldn't of thought to hollow out, I'd of made a ten pound bunny. Very cool!
