Scientists exposed to anthrax at US labs: CDC

Показать описание
And finally, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says scientists at government labs may have been exposed to live anthrax... due to a lack of safety measures.
Paul, do officials know how many people have been infected?
The CDC said on Thrusday, that as many as 75 scientists may have come into direct contact with the deadly bacteria.
But they did reassure that the risk of infection was very low and that there was no danger to the general public.
The potential exposure occurred last Friday... after researchers working in a high-level biosecurity laboratory in Atlanta, Georgia,... failed to follow proper safety procedures.
Samples of the deadly anthrax bacteria were accidentally transferred to another lab before inactivating them.
The agency has begun contacting those who may have handled live anthrax without wearing adequate protective gear.
The CDC says no employees have shown any symptoms... but cases of illnesses have been documented some 60 days after exposure
The 75 scientists are now undergoing intense antibiotic treatments and anthrax vaccinations.
The CDC is conducting an investigation into the incident... and said disciplinary measures would be taken if warranted. Cheri.
Alright Paul.... Thanks for that update. We'll see you back... in just about two hours.
