How to Return the Spin Serve like a Pro | Featuring Porter Barr

In this video, Porter Barr and I going over how to read and return the one handed Morgan Evans spin serve. There are a lot of small subtle things to look for, but once you know what to look for, these serves become significantly easier to return. After a year of doing them myself and playing people who do them, I can confidently say that these serves are MUCH easier to return than most people believe.

Just to clarify at 1:52, I mispoke while talking. But the pictures and text on screen are CORRECT.

If a right handed player has their palm facing their body, the ball will kick to your backhand.
If their palm is facing towards the court, that will go to your forehand.

You can flip that if they are a lefty.

Best video on reading this spin serve! I see it from very few players (like 1) in our drill and rec groups so don’t get to practice against it. Then in our local RR, we were undefeated till our final game against the other undefeated team…and one of the players had a good kick spin. A game to 11 by 1 is NOT enough time to learn to read it!!! Lol! So will try and really focus on what you said here. Thanks again!

Interesting video. However, I see that Porter starts the ball spinning before he makes contact with the ball - he flicks the ball between his fingers which starts a spin prior to ball contact. Once he contacts the ball, additional spin is created. Is this technique legal?
