Tutorial for installation of 10" and 6" Gas Struts on upper cabinet doors. Measurements for the 10" strut door mounts are 2-3/4" X 5/8" and for the 6" strut are 1-1/4 X 5/8". Simple process and great upgrade for upward opening cabinet doors in vans and rv campers.

Great vid! I bought some gas struts to use for a lid on a bench that I'm building. This is exactly what I needed.

You really need to do a walk around video of this trailer. It looks amazing from what I can see. From what little I saw it looked like one of the best ones I’ve seen yet on here.

Thanks a lot this saved me some time on the job from trying to figure out the measurements and placement myself seeing how the package doesn't go into detail about it

Great work Daniel! We would only suggest putting the black gas struts other way round. They will last longer 🔥

FYI — struts should be set to collapse down ward like your 10” struts (the opposite of your 6” struts). This stops the oil from drying out in the struts. :)

Thank you for the layout in this video. I have the 6" strut, and the layout measurements given to me with the struts were nowhere close.

I've got a couple 10" struts which i plan on using to hold open a door that is 20" wide and 14" tall. This video will help since my first attempt i mounted the strut too high up the cabinet, and too far out on the door.

btw... those inexpensive 6" struts aren't going to last very long if you mount them upside down like that. I'd flip them over.

Thank you for the video. I'm horrible at this. If I have 8.5 inch cabinets with a 1in overlay, how can I figure out the distance where to install the brackets please. I have 10 in. struts. I ruined the cabinets in my previous trailer guessing. -Just watched again, possibly need 6in struts. :(

Does the strut itself pull the door soft close or is it the hinges?

I'm getting ready to do this to my RV but have 8" struts. Can I assume based on you measurements for the 6 & 10" mine would be somewhere in between the 1-1/4 & 2-3/4" marks? If correct my math says mine should be mounted 2" x 5/8" for an 8" strut? Does that sound about right?

Can I ask what is the width of the entire cabinet that you installed the 6" strut?
I have a 9" wide cabinet, and not sure if the 6" strut is too long?

Hi Dan,

I am very interested in the layout of your camper. I am looking to make my own build from a cargo trailer so I was wondering if you have any videos of the complete inside. I am very interested that you have a shower in your build. That is important to me and I am trying to figure out where I want to put mine. Thank you so much for these educational videos!

Please advise where you obtained the 6” strut. Also the part # if possible. I can’t seem to find anywhere.

Hi Daniel!
What insulation (to keep the heat inside) did you use for your rv-cargo ?
and why this one ?
I am inquiring for a future project
Best Regard!
