I have been practicing track stand for 40 minutes, my knees are killing me. I'll give it a try for the next 5 days, training at least 1 hour a day. hopelly I'll get it!

Hi Neal. I made up my mind to absolutely learn how to correctly track stand. I’ve done 30-45 minutes of practice per day for 50+ days and can track stand with either foot forward and can turn the front wheel in either direction, thanks to you. I can hold the track stand for as long as I need to. My question is, I’ve seen you back pedal out of a track stand (fakie) and wonder how you do that without spinning backward? I’ve tried to do it and can’t get the hang of it. By spinning backwards, I mean my pedals spin as I try to back pedal, but I don’t get anywhere? How do you go backwards and get some kind of grip from the drivetrain? What’s the trick? Thanks.

I use the track stand on my commute to and from work at red lights so I don’t have to unclip. It also makes you look like a pro even if you have a pannier bag on your bicycle.

Great tip! This is even more challenging with one bad knee I find.

Hey GMBN, could you guys make a video "how to crash like a pro"?
I know nobody wants to crash but I heard someone say "if you aren't crashing, you're not going fast enough". So how do you crash with style?

Neil, can you do an in-depth video about stoppies? I've seen the 5 trials skills vid but this is more helpful than the track stand portion of it

Although this works on an MTB, you are generally better to turn the bars towards your front foot - if you rode a track or road bike, or older geo MTB where you could get toe overlap with front wheel, turning bars other way stops you touching foot with the front wheel.

Can you do a video for how to find grip on slippery surfaces such as a bridge and hard corners?

Imho the trackstand is one of the most useful skills you can learn.
If you struggle with it, try getting your shoulders in line with the bars and apply even pressure to the pedals.

Do you need a fixed hub to trackstand or not? Or is it possible to trackstand long without a fixed hub?

I have lernt this one from different video and I can give better tips ( I can stand 3 minutes like that) : P. 1. Start lerning like that but front wheel based on the corner of the street. The bike wheels have to be parallel to corner of the street. Head have to be a little bit behind bicycle handlebar tube. One leg have to be straight on knee (locked knee ). 2). When you lern balance this the next step is to lern this but riding ---large hill--- verrry slow as slow as possible ( but the wheel have to be turned like in this video) 3). Then you will have to lern by using pedal to move forward and backwards ( bike go forward by using pedal and then letting bike go back from wheel backward ( like if you would like to ride a half meter back ) go forward and backward many times about +200 times. 4). The next step is to lern step "3)" but this time riding not as large hill. 5). lern "4" but this time again with a little bit large hill like it was be a flat ground. 6) use bicycle brake in ---- this last 6 step. You will be able easly to stand like a pro = ). That's it.

Hey how do you do a trackstand on a flat or if you're going down a hill? (Say you're just on a downhill road and you wish to do this at a red light?
