Depuis, je ne l'ai pas pratiqué. 6 ans plus tard, j'ai désormais envie de réviser tout ça et d'aller encore plus loin. J'ai regardé cette vidéo. Il s'avère que je me souviens assez bien de ce que j'ai appris. Je veux devenir bon dans ce domaine. Je veux être capable de comprendre et de parler avec une bonne prononciation.

It's a good video! My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. Teacher : "Great. Now, what's 20 times 4?"
Students : "Four-twenties!"
Teacher : "Parfait. Lastly, what's 4 times 20 plus 19?"
Students : "Four-twenties ten nine, Madame!"

Thank you! It’s so strange for English speakers when at school learning the French numbers.

We did 1 to 10, all good. Then 11 to 16, no problem. Then trouble and confusion starts at 17-19. What you suddenly have to say 10+7 = 17.

Plain sailing from 20 to 69. Then things got confusing again. English equivalent of say 71 would be ‘Sixty and Eleven’. Then 81 would be ‘Four twenty’s and one’. Then 91 would ‘Four twenty’s and eleven’. I always wondered why the French don’t just have a single word for 70, 80 & 90! It’s all very interesting and good fun. It just means when I speak my limited French I have the do a mathematical calculation to remember how to say the 70, 80, 90’s numbers! Merci. 😁
