I just installed my shelf. It works as advertised. One thing to be careful with, the screws that secure the extension damper (the device that cushions the bottom of the shelf as it extends) are not sufficient for the 35" shelf. I was carefully pressing the foam into the shelf and they failed. Not too big of a deal. I was able to find better screws that I was able to use in place of the very small original screws. It took me a 20 minutes to take off the bottom of the shelf, carefully screw in the heaver screws that I had, then re-attach the bottom shelf. Now, it works perfectly.

I bought the small shelf "on sale" for $200 and a week later I found the same basic shelf at a local big box store for $100. It never seemed to wok right and today I figured out why, the lock wasn't engaging properly. The pin was catching on the edge of the lock instead of in the hole. The lock is screwed and glued so I had to shim the pin assembly so the pin would engage the lock. The motion detecting light is junk too, only works when it feels like it, haven't attempted to shut off the annoying tones that could be a give away to an intruder.

Having to replace my lock. Ordered a new one on 6-11. Also ordered a battery back up for the new lock. New lock arrived and NO instructions or diagram as to how to install the new lock which was NOT the same lock as I was replacing. Called and lady said that this new lock was the only lock they were using now. She e-mailed me an instruction sheet that mentioned new parts that were not included with the package containing the new lock. This was a good item to start with. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. My recomendation is build your own and use a magnetic child's safety lock and avoid a lot of frustration.

PSA - If the battery chord to the motor falls out and the batteries die, and your backup battery pack cannot open the shelf (because of said chord falling out) you can slip a small pry bar into the gap and pry down, the lock mechanism is held on by 2 small finishing nails and a very small amount of glue, replace batteries/snug cable, reset with better nails and wood glue and you're back in business.

We have many shelves and love them. But we have a one gun holder that wouldn't open with the card this winter, so we used the battery box?, little black box, and now we can't get the door to go back up and stay closed, what can we do. thanks!

Mine has never opened like this. It sticks and you almost need a crowbar to open the dang thing. Same when closing it.

Just put one of their shelves up. Love the look and how solid it is built! One thing that is a HUGE letdown is how loud it is. Beeps when you first scan the card, then while it is opening and then again every 15 seconds or so. In a dark, quiet house, this is NOT tactical at all. I asked if it could be disabled. It can by reprogramming BUT if you reprogram, then you have to scan the card to re-lock it also (Huh????) and not just push it closed. This "feature" almost ruins the whole thing for me. Very disappointed.

They worked when I 1st moved in but now they open or beep. Is there a battery replacement or something?
