They shouldn’t have 3 Billion. Neither should their school’s endowments. It’s a scam at every level

Essentially college sports are now minor leagues for the pros. It almost seems silly for them to be actual students now.

The top-paid public employee in 40 states is a college football or basketball coach. 25 college coaches make over 6.4 million. The top colleger coach makes 11.4 million. The top governor is 1/4 million. Vermont pays its governor only $70, 000.

You gotta also pay baseball players, hockey players and marching bands

This means that the top teams in P4/5 that receive the most annual revenue, are going to be the only ones being able to compete for titles, championships, and spending the most money on the best players.
All other remaining programs will always be on the outside looking in.

*_Great! Now players can pay for their own education._* 😊

It just seems like something died with all of this money now flooding into college sports. The purity of the game died.

Don’t we already have scholarships for these college athletes? Shouldn’t that be good enough?

"Nowhere else in the world do we celebrate college athletics". True, but the real truth that no American seems to know is: "Nowhere else in the world is there any such thing as College Athletics." "College athletics" simply does not exist anywhere else in the world. Please don't bother to tell me that there is some random college in Canada, or England that has some sort of athletics. I am aware that there are outliers, but there is NOTHING like American college athletics anywhere else in the world. So, if we really want to destroy college athletics, and it appears that is what "we" want to do, then just end it. Cold turkey. Allow athletic clubs to build their own athletic programs, like every club in the world outside of America does.

If our legal system has made it so students taking token easy-A courses get great compensation for entertaining alum and greasing the palms of shady gambling organizations, while students working in the STEM fields are helping to find cures for cancer, helping to explore the universe, and developing new technologies have to scrape by on research stipends then there is something very wrong with our legal system.

Can't wait for the high school-college draft. Then higher education will REALLY be flushed down the crapper

I'm old and stupid I thought they were getting paid when they got the athletic scholarship.... tuition for the average power 5 school $30, 000 a year or more.... believe me I'm not against any of these kids making money but.... like I said I'm old and stupid.

Players by and large don't create ANY money for their schools. The fans create ALL the money for the school and decide which sports bring in that money.

1. The top athletes in revenue sports arent there for education.
2. The top athletes in revenue sports are not representative of the students or alumni
3. The revenue sports generate huge income and donations for the schools, esp if they win
4. The best college teams are not as good as minor league pro teams and if they did not wear the college uniform would sell few tickets, never be on TV, and the players would all need real jobs to survive.
College sports has always been a ridiculous hypocracy and now maybe the players and schools can rot in their own swill.

Blame the incompetence and greed of the NCAA

I have always thought that athletes in revenue producing sports should be paid the same rate as other students who work for the university. If a lab assistant gets $15/hour, then athletes should get $15/hour.
