Interestingly, backing off my SM7B to about 5" or 6" and aiming it at the corner of my mouth seems to reduce not only audible breaths, but also cuts down on the mouth clicks and saliva sounds picked up. Much less to clean up later. In any case, my voice audio, before any processing, hits right around -12dB.

Having mixed using old-style analogue-desks in auditorium/church settings many years ago, I would cringe at the way people on a late model Yamaha digital mixing-desk couldn't grasp just these basics of microphone/mixing levels!
For many years, until video-streaming became a preferred option, I was editing church & funeral services to be provided on CDs, but towards the end the quality of the recordings were so bad that even my skills couldn't correct the distortion, clipping, & feedback!
Now I'm just having fun playing, singing, & recording my own music! Also hoping to start my own pod cast sometime!

Very informative content. Thanks for the video.

I have a keyboard which I want to play in church in a live setup. I have the speakers and mixers, but the audio quality is not par excellence.

Do I have to add a passive or active DI Box and a audio interface to the signal path for maximum sound quality? Should I get both or either one? I saw a video if your on DI box and your suggestion will help me to come up the best output. Please suggest me what should I do. (I'm looking for a minimal, budget friendly setup as I can't afford.) Thanks in advance. ❤

Room echo coming up next - just as I was going to suggest it as a topic.

Hopefully the so called pros listen to this. From local news casts, Fm radio and SiriusXM gain staging is apparently an optional course in broadcasting. So many times I hear peaking voices from DJs and news anchors and find myself asking why does this happen? Where are the producers to say fix this on the fly or during the next commercial break? I usually change the channel to something else because I expect better. I jokingly say sometimes that it reminds me of high school AV club. But then again they can probably do a better job than these so called professionals.

-12-18 dbfs🤔 Peak or RMS. Thanks for clarifying

Is it right that -12dB equals to 25% full scale voltage swing and -18dB equals to 12.5% full scale voltage swing?
