How do you connect the detergent bottles so they actually pull detergent?

My spray wand holder, the thin plastic strip does not fit inside the slot as shown @ 1:20. Any recommendation?

But how do you attach the soap container to the steel lance? And how do you spray when you've taken that piece off the handle? Doesn't make sense.
