I think you are on the right track. IMO, you want to shield the colony from solar gain so the white wrap you have is perfect. That, with the insulation, will create a very consistent environment inside the hive, which again, IMO is exactly what you should be going for. I believe that the ambient temperature is far less important than is the stability of that temperature. The insulation and white shielding create that stability.
