RWW News: Jeffress Says Anti-Discrimination Order Paves The Way To Target Churches

Right Wing Watch reports on the extreme rhetoric and activities of key right-wing figures and organizations by showing their views in their own words. In this video, Robert Jeffress says the anti-discrimination executive order signed by President Obama is laying the foundation for stripping churches of their tax-exempt status.

Restricting an organization for practicing bigotry is different than penalizing it for a belief. You'd think there would be at least one class on logic somewhere in all those bible study courses Jeffress took to get his doctorate.

Why would it be bad to strip churches of tax exempt status? If they want to play with politics, then they can pay like everyone else.

First off, religious organizations SHOULDN'T get tax exempt status (a lot of churches nowadays are businesses as well as places of worship) and if an organization wants to be able to discriminate against the LGBT community, they simply don't contract to work with the federal government.

Tax them all! If you can not function in a diverse society by treating all people equally in the public square and business, then you deserve to not have a public business, Any church that pokes it's nose in politics should be taxed. The exemption laws are vague and need to be reviewed and made very clear. The IRS NEEDS to look at what some churches and "religious" orgs. and strip them of their tax exemptions.

Religious groups like the KKK and others were heavily affected when the federal antidiscrimination laws went into effect. 
Making it illegal to discriminate for reasons of race, gender, and religion, was much harder on christians then the current change being made.

If you are going to use Bible to justify religious exemptions, how about religious exemption for murder?
Deuteronomy 17:12 (KJV) "And the man that will do presumptuously, and will not hearken unto the priest that standeth to minister there before the Lord thy God, or unto the judge, even that man shall die: and thou shalt put away the evil from Israel." 

Or slavery?

I WISH!  Why should those who view fellow citizens as "less" than they are enjoy tax-free status while the rest of us pay into the system?   Churches should not be allowed to interfere with government any more than government should be allowed to interfere with churches (both have said right if people are getting hurt).

NO MORE TAX-FREE STATUS JUST FOR BEING ORGANIZED BIGOTS!
