Lionel Messi has had a legendary career, surely if we started it over today he wouldn’t be able to do it again? I’ve used a custom database on Football Manager to put 16-year-old Lionel Messi on Barcelona starting in… 2024. He would go on to play for more than 20 years all over the world, but wait, I’ve said to much, it’s video watching time.

The problem is that Messi should have more than the max potential in game. The game itself had to rebalance the attributes because of Messi back in the day, downgrading every other player because Messi changed what a 20 meant.

Maybe this is stating the obvious, but this video is more like a simulation of Messi's career had he been an actual HUMAN. Also keeping in mind that (iirc) SI has said in the past that he and CR7 cannot actually be recreated in the match engine without it outright breaking.

It's kind of crazy how I've seen quite a few similar concepts, and in almost all of them, Messi does relatively poorly compared to how he did in real life.

Also a 16 years old Messi being on sale for 90k is hilarious. Can't help but imagine the faces of everyone who passed on the 90k USD Messi when he's worth a thousand times that in just a couple years, and ten thousand times that at the peak of his career (given how transfer inflation is going, I suspect that's not even gonna be record breaking in 2034 because of petro-dollar sponsors)
