I mean, I'm an open-minded person and I don't hate on people that dig astrology BUT people that refuse to go places, interact with people, date people, etc. solely based on their sign is just insane to me. Yes, I have friends like that. It actually ends up making THEM the close-minded ones for using it just like an extreme religious person would in ways. I think there's a healthy balance to being into it but not making it your whole identity and certainly not using it as an excuse to not go to a party because "Sara is going to be there and she's a Capricorn". Even though my friend had NEVER met Sara lol That's when it's weird af to me.

I won't set major life decisions by it, but I can't deny that it's fun and sometimes a bit uncanny how it can nail people down beyond vague platitudes.

Don't agree.
You can be fun, creative person with a healthy relationship with fantasy, and still reject astrology entirely. I love DND and improv, and my job is literally to teach creative subjects to children.

I will have conversations with people about astrology, because I like to see people happy, but I think I would be incompatible romantically with someone who sincerely believed in it.

no control issues, just a follower of the scientific method

I don't think rejecting astrology is about being a control freak. At least for me, is about wanting to think logically and based on scientific facts 🤷🏾‍♀️

“Without even seeking educated information”
I was partially on-board with you saying that there’s no reason to be so angry about astrology, but seeing you sound so genuinely angry and accuse this person for being uneducated and controlling is uncomfortable to me.

I think the healthiest people out there realize that looking into astrology is harmless if it’s just for fun, but to not let it define who you are or define your life choices. At the end of the day it super doesn’t matter and it’s ridiculous to get angry over who does or doesn’t believe in it. It’s closed-minded and controlling to fight over it.

I also don’t like that your first reaction to someone not believing it is to say they never read any educational literature. You can literally Google yourself and find peer-reviewed studies on astrology. I don’t care if people believe in astrology or not, but to imply that there is no scientific research done on the topic is simply wrong.

People have an innate urge to categorize themselves and feel like they’re part of a group. It’s why we love personality tests. To be born and categorized into one of 12ish labels is comforting to many people. 2 categories and it feels less special. 100 categories and the categories start to feel like they have less meaning. We also like being told whether something with go well or not. Hearing that you’re a good match with a friend might be the push needed to deepen the friendship. Hearing a certain year is auspicious for childbirth might be what decides a couple to finally consider children. We like hearing these kinds of things and they have visible effects on how we live our lives. Culturally you can see it happen all over the world, whether it be blood types, birth year, birth month, etc.

Astrology and other categories like these also are strategically made to be vague. There were tests where people handed different astrology personality results and had people highlight parts that they thought were accurate, and each person in “the same group” focused on different parts of the description. (Eg: “X star sign is social, hardworking, and creative”. Person A might go “yeah I’m social, this totally fits!” And gloss over the other two traits. Person B might go “yeah I’m super creative” and gloss over the other traits. Both parties could be nothing alike each other and yet still strongly identify with the text they were given.) One experiment in particular gave people of all signs one vague text and everyone felt it described them perfectly.

There are plenty of other studies where they provided astrologically-accurate information vs random bullshit they made up to people to see how it affects people etc. similar to a placebo effect, if your horoscope says you’ll have a great day, people were statistically more likely to report a good day (and people of the same sign who were told today might not be a good day for them reported they didn’t have a good day).

Now I’m not putting this here to shit on astrology. I have fun chatting about it and hearing about it, but people two take it too seriously to the point of being angry about believing/not believing is a red flag.

I’ve had bad experiences with family members that were dangerously religious/spiritual that got livid when someone dared to have another belief. I find these people truly terrifying and controlling.
This is the first video where I got that feeling from you.

I think in astrology there's a healthy balance. Like somewhere in the in-between of having fun with it and not taking it seriously. You don't believe in it, cool but don't yuck my yum. Or letting astrology ruin your relationships, it should never be that deep.

I think that’s drawing a lot of conclusions about someone based on just a statement.

I know that astrology isn't real science, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying the topic.

And for anyone who's curious, I'm a Libra Sun, Pisces Moon, and Leo Ascending.

I feel the complete opposite of it a “control freak “ I’m just vibin you over here like “WHATS YOUR SIGN “ then right in that moment completely judging someone on the month they were born which they have no control of. Honestly it’s blatantly discrimination.

I don't have a problem with astrology, I do have a problem with people who act like they understand everything about you because of your birthday.

My personal lead for an "astrology litmus test" is to say I'm an ophuichus (even though I'm not), because it weeds out both people who are vehemently against the idea and people who take it too seriously.

I love astrology but the description that comes out of my birth chart is the opposite of me 💀 like it’s objectively wrong (every friend of mine who’s into astrology has a little crisis when reading how far from the truth my chart is) it’s funny though cause my boyfriend’s description is spot on, he’s a walking Virgo stereotype so there’s that.

Astrology is just determinism and determinism is just quirky facism

Feels the complete opposite to me honestly. Compartmentalizing people based on the time and place of their birth in order to judge their character more easily is as control-freaky as it gets. Not gonna lie, astrology is fun sometimes, but when someone says "oh you MUST be a virgo" like 5 minutes into the conversation.. I'm out lmao

I can't stand that people use astrology to absolve themselves of any responsibility.

Ya know good point on the dream killer argument. As an artist/musician, I can relate with not wanting to deal with negativity towards creativity. That's coming from someone who really doesn't believe in astrology 😂. Who are any of us to shut down someone else's passion and interest

I think the opposite and think that people that believe in astrology or religion are the ones that can't be at peace that we live in a chaotic world.
It gives you the feeling that something (inorganic systems) or someone (god) has a plan or goal. So it gives the illusion that the world isnt random and bad things happen gor a reason because something has a plan.

I think it's dumb to superficially judge others based on when they were born.
