Synopsis: Halim and Mina run a traditional caftan store in one of Morocco’s oldest medinas. In order to keep up with the commands of the demanding customers, they hire Youssef. The talented apprentice shows an utmost dedication in learning the art of embroidery and tailoring from Halim. Slowly Mina realizes how much her husband is moved by the presence of the young man.

THE BLUE CAFTAN was Morocco's Official Entry for the 2023 95 Academy Awards Best International Film category. The film won the fipresci International Film Critics Prize at Cannes Film Festival, Silver Hugo Best Director Award at The Chicago International Film Festival, Audience Award Panorama at Vancouver International Film Festival, and the Grand Jury Award at Newfest Film Festival. The film was also an Official Selection at Cannes Film Festival, as well as Official Selection and Special Presentation at Toronto International Film Festival.

Amazing film. Deserves a far bigger audience. There were only about ten people in the theatre I saw it in. Meanwhile, there are the most generic McEmpire movies at multiplexes.

I recommend this movie even though I find this trailer - as many trailers - not good. It's not a cliché-ridden movie at all.

What goes over some peoples head reading some of these comments is that the movie isn't mainly about the gay romance between the tailor Halim and the apprentice Youssef. It's a story about relationship, love, marriage, death and honesty. And your religion can help you with all of these topics or hinder you. And it shows these struggles in a very sensitive way.

Loving the movie, however, cant get past the accents. They couldnt go with moroccans from morocco for this? The actors (the couple) is palestinian so obviously theyd have a hard time speaking (lets be honest here) a very hard accent like darija. I just dont get it… or is it because they couldnt find moroccans to do this type of movie?
Not many in morocco would want to act in it😢 sad but it would basically be career suicide 😅
