Mexican candy is an acquired taste for sure. That sour taste was probably tamarind.

Alot of Mexican candy is hit or miss depending on if you like the flavor of tamarind &chili because it will come up often.

the embodiment of being able to buy the things you wanted as a kid with adult money.

Looks like the pelon minis probably have a similar taste and texture to “chamoy” which is what they put on the candy mangoes/fruits you mentioned

Hey can you make a long YouTube video just walking through all the aisles and showing us the candy ❤ 🍭 🍬 I would love to watch you show the candy while walking by. And you don’t need to review all of them super close but yeah that’s be awesome 😋

I owned a candy store they were a major wholesaler of mine until they decided to become full retail that tub of belts used to be almost half that price and those Charleston chew boxes were like $16-18

About the pelones, it all depends on the temperature of the candy and which size you get. Those tiny ones always come out bad especially if they were in a cold place. Try the regular size ones or the jumbo pelones on a warm day, it’ll be gooey and taste better. I recommend trying them once more.

Just a little tip for anybody in the Midwest and/or with expendable income, there's a Place called "minnesota's largest candy store" in obviously Minnesota. Place is absolutely lit, Mexican candies, Japanese candies, a whole section dedicated to foreign beverages, a section for freshly baked pies and whatnot, a pumpkin patch outside. It's one of my favorite places on earth and to feel like a kid again. Place is usually packed so I'd recommend finding out when it's not super busy. Great place to take a date. Bring lots of money because you'll find stuff you didn't know you need. No Im not an employee there, I just love it a lot. One of the few places I can get those Japanese marble pop pops

To enjoy Pelon candy properly, you simply push it down or up (whichever you prefer) and let the tamarind candy extend like hair before consuming it. Eating it while pressing it is counterproductive, as it detracts from the intended experience.

I LOVE Pelon! There was a Latin grocery store near me growing up and I miss it.
