This podcast is from the remote and windy shore of the Rio Motagua. Robert Leijgraaf, aka Bobby, Project Engineer at The Ocean Cleanup, sits with our host, Dan van der Kooy, in the fishing village of El Quetzalito, Guatemala.

We’re about to deploy the second Interceptor Solution in Guatemala. Bobby talks about the need for another Interceptor Barricade at the end of the Rio Motagua and what we learned from the first project in the country. Interceptor Barricade XL will be about 300km downstream from the first Interceptor Barricade. If it all goes well, the combined impact of the two deployments will stop river pollution right before it enters the Caribbean Sea.

And follow The Ocean Cleanup on:

Keep up the good work! You guy are heroes. And remember folks we gotta do our part. One way of reducing trashes is to start a permaculture on your property!

Few days ago it was the day where they collect the recycling material so I went to put my container on the side of the road but my container was completely empty, even after 2 weeks. A permaculture drastically reduces the amount of trash and other waste you produces, plus I lost 15 pounds of fat this summer.

Go read about permaculture, its not only about helping the world, it could change your life like it changed mine.

Hopefully these trash traps will make everyone be more protective on trash instead of thinking now it doesn't matter if they dump trash because the traps will catch it.

What an amazing idea and long overdo.
Now it might be a good idea if we can put a plan together for people to dispose of trash in a different way instead of dumping in rivers

Are the floating barrier pieces made of plastic recycled from the cleanup effort from the ships and rivers?
