Target Tones

Here's the next episode of Brewster's Millions Of Rants with Target Tones. This lesson shares its name with one of my published books - ''Target Tones' from Centerstream Publications (2017). While this episode doesn't contain any examples directly from that title, it does share a few of the concepts from that title and should give you some new ideas to practice and mentally chew on.

This lesson focuses on several simple, yet effective approaches to soloing over individual chords and chord progressions, and while the ideas we're hitting here revolve around a minor key, you could easily relate this to major keys, modal tonalities, and much more!

This lesson also features plenty of looping via the TC Electronic Ditto pedal, so to really get an earful and maximum benefit from the ideas shared in this lesson, locate a way to have the chords you'll be playing/soloing over ringing behind you, so you can actually hear what you're doing and why you're doing it as you jam/practice with some of these ideas.

Give this episode a view, leave some comments and feedback, and please subscribe to Late Night Lessons - THANK YOU!

There's so much knowledge here on how to propel a solo with intent and creativity. I wish this had been in my wheelhouse at the very start. Absolutely foundational to making a solo. I can feel it making me better already. Thank you David!!!

I now find myself checking YouTube every day for Late Night Lessons. I haven't seen a lesson yet that wasn't helpful or informative in some way. I'm constantly going back and checking out the older stuff (especially on rainy days, lol). I wish I knew about these lessons from the start. Great stuff Mr. Brewster! Please keep them coming.

I did not realize how established you are in the music publishing business but I'm not surprised after watching you breakdown Murder by Numbers in a previous lexson so easily and explain it well. Great content and a great demeanor with your teaching style.

It’s like you don’t know (although I’m sure you do) what you know! Those “unscripted riffs” could have been Knopfler, Gilmore, Moore or even Jeff Beck!!! Soulful and melancholy with the best of them.

People often seem to equate ability, to having no music or little fretboard knowledge. To 'fly blind' is the realm of genius.
