My Profile:

I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

Those things work great in the peak of summer even overseas. I'm from Spain and big crawlers are my top 1 low light top water baits in the heat. My biggest topwater bass this summer was on the Deka Dodge by Raid Japan, we have caught lots of fish on the Gan Craft one too!!!

I've have used this lure since they first hit the market. This lure is one of the best topwater lures for night fishing. Even on nights when there is no activity on top, I will still throw this lure. I use 15 to 20 lb. mono. A slow steady retrieve is best like you said, because if you go to fast, it will roll. I would change the hooks on them also, I use Mustad Ultra Point KVD Triple Grip Treble Hook. As you can see from my profile picture, those two bass were caught on the Pompadour Jr. Thanks for the video Matt.

What a great description of how and when to use these baits, I will say I have never used them but your description of this bait has me wanting to give them a go this summer, great job!!!

We used Crazy Crawlers when I was a kid fishing ponds and small streams. We caught a ton of fish on them! Actually I had forgot about them. Thanks for the reminder

Brings back memories of my uncle's old tackle box! Several old wood Heddon lures in there. Matt, I also tend to talk with my hands and you doing so makes me very nervous when you start handling those trebles on the videos. When you brought out that Muskie lure I thought "Good Lord we're getting ready for an ER trip!" 😅 Keep up the great work and good luck in FL!

Love the “musky talk”. I have only used these lures for them. Will grab one this season for some Bass.
Good Luck this weekend!

Thanks Matt. Went thru my creepy crawler faze in my late teens, caught a few but moved on. My favorite back then was the jitterbug but also moved on. I'm pretty happy with spooks, poppers, frogs and buzzbaits now.
Matt I often read the comments posted and you are one of the few host that reads them(thank you). I have picked up a couple of tips I have or will try, Have you tried any of the post you have read?

found this pompadore at our local sports show about 6 years ago, like you very familier with the heddon crazy crawler, I use the pompadore most of the year on my lake that is full of boat docks. I use it to fish along the edges of the docks and it does bring the fish out from them. great action off this lure a little better than the heddon.

Everything you catch your American Bass on, we catch Australian Bass on, maybe just scaled down a bit. For about two years a while back I threw a crawler bait virtually 90% of the time. Spring, Summer, Autumn(fall) & winter. It was my go to bait. But not to cover ground, as you said, you must have confidence where they are. Not a soft presentation, but a landing that says, hey I'm here. And not a retrieve but just jiggling in one spot. jiggle stop, jiggle stop, leave 10, 20 seconds, jiggle again, then start over again. Weed, snags, rocks, anything. any winged creature will work.

Cool video! I have never tried one but am wondering if they produce well in VERY clear water? Thanks for the great content as always.

I had pretty good luck with the Duo Realis Shinmushi Cicada Bug a couple of years ago when the cicada bugs were coming out to mate.

So, would you consider a jitterbug a crawler bait?

When is a good time to use the mouse wake baits? Do you use them times like you would a buzzbait or summer months?

Great stuff. I have 2 Popadours a Reg. and a Jr. including the color you showed in this video. Do you prefer dead calm, very calm, slight chop, etc. also what about sunlight/clouds?

I have some jitterbugs in the regular, long, and jointed sizes. Awesome low light or no light for that matter bait. Whenever I think of a jitterbug I think middle of summer and good times.

Do u throw topwater in the prespawn or too cold? If yes I assume uve got a favorite. On flats, around docks, sun facing banks
