I suppose Doran is somewhat effective in his own way. Though as IDG points out not the most varied or complex aims / approach it seems. To me DM's biggest flaw is he just plays far too long a game, long & patient to a fault. Fruit blackening on the vine is an apt comparison to his plans. The Sand Snakes seem to clash with DM about this as well. For me just too long a game, too long where factors & circumstances change enough to up-end the initial aims. Sending Oberyn to KL is effective. But for me also highlights the benefit of being decisive and taking action ; seeing how much Oberyn accomplishes in KL in a relatively short time taking the initiative. Compared to the super long game of DM, where plans keep falling apart, needing to be rethought and reattempted over and over.

I think he's a bit of an idiot. I don't think his Arianne plan is going to work, either. I think she's going to show up with Aegon's crown, herself as a marriage ally, and Myrcella as a hostage, and Faegon's going to take the crown and marry Myrcella, because the Martells have to support him anyway at this point.

Oh yeah, a centuries old deal with the Targaryens and some questionable bloodlines loosely connected to them means Danys dragons will instantly recognize Martells as people that can ride them. 🤦
