Whenever this song came on in the underworld, I would literally stand there for about five minutes just listening to this song. It is simply beautiful.
Edit: I was 16 when I wrote this comment. I just turned 26 a few days ago and it still rings true. Awesome to see so many can relate!

A note scrawled by a tortured soul:

The melody, it plays on and will not stop.
The voice sings of pain and loss. These things I know too well, but still can bear.

It is when the voice sings of hope that I learn true anguish,
a longing for that which I can never have.

Going back to this from God of War Ragnarok Valhalla really puts things into perspective. Even though his entire backstory was one big tragedy. Hope still prevailed

Pandora will always be memorable to me, solely because she was the one person Kratos actually didn't want to die. He was willing to lose the chance to defeat Olympus just to save her, as if he cared more about her well being than his vengeance. It's a very subtle thing that they hint the reason for this is because she reminded him of Calliope.

when he lost his family, he hoped he could avenge them
when he served the gods for 10 years, he hoped he could forget what he's done
when he heard about his brother still being alive, he hoped he could save him
when he wanted revenge for all he went through because of the gods, he hoped it would finally make him rest
when he destroyed all of olympus, he hoped humanity would still thrive after his sacrifice

"Hope is what makes us strong. It is why we are here. It's what we fight with when all else is lost." -Pandora to Kratos.

This quote is the one that bring me back from depression, since ever. This Melody brought a tear to my eye.

Kratos wants his revenge so badly in order to free himself from all of his pain and suffering emotionally from losing all his loved ones all because of his own doings. He feels guilty that he's lost his humanity ever since he's sworn his allegiance to the Gods and that he's went from being a warrior to a monster. He finds it so hard to forgive himself for everything that's happened that he wants revenge instead because he just can't bear to forgive and have that feeling of hope, but opening Pandora's Box gave everyone else in Olympus fear while it gave Kratos hope which is why he's the only one who walks out in the end and everything else is left in ruins. Pandora is the one who Kratos can't bear to let himself get attached to because she reminds him of his own daughter but later on he can't help himself and is very protective of her, she's the one who tells him to be hopeful and tells him to learn to forgive himself, which is exactly what happens during his battle with Zeus, that's how he was able to defeat him, by still maintaining that hope within him. And then the finale when he uses the Blade of Olympus to kill himself and he releases all that hope inside of him onto the world was brilliant. That's what made God of War III so powerful for me, even more so after having played through all the previous entries in the series. He has that longing desire for something he thinks he can never have but was with him the whole entire time.

After Kratos killed his father he was grieving for his adoptive niece Pandora who reminded him so much of his daughter Calliope. Her sacrifice was in vain because there was nothing in the box. She died because of Kratos need for vengeance. First his Spartan Captain Nikos, Lysandra, Calliope, Orkos, Callisto, Deimos, the last Spartan, Athena, and now her.

This song sings of hope through the pain and suffering in the underworld. It reminds me of everything that I have lost and cannot be able to have. I cry to this song so much I cannot describe the pain that I have. This song touched my soul so much. The pain Kratos went through over the years when he discovered that he was related to the Gods of Olympus, Titans and Primodials. The thought that Kratos was betrayed by his own blood. That feeling will never leave you.

The turmoil was over. But the wounds would never heal. He once again killed his family:Hecatonchires, Furies, Gods, Titans and Primodials Despite what they did to him they were still his family.

The Underworld in God of War has always focused on horror, and the torture of the afterlife.

But this melody really brings out the haunting, tragic side of it. It reminds you that these damned souls wandering around and falling into the river Styx below were once living people, with families and friends, dreams and goals.

Now they're just all part of Hades' machine.

The only sound track I would constantly listen to over and over again.

It's sad how Kratos came to care about Pandora in such a short time which makes the death of Pandora hard for Kratos. This man lost his wife and child by unknowingly killing them before seeing their faces, then his mother died after breaking the blood oath with Ares. Then Orkos died by Kratos' hand just to free Kratos from Ares at the request that Orkos kill him to avoid a fate far worse than death for both of them. Next thing he loses is his family again in an illusion Ares created in the battle of Kratos Vs Ares. Next thing he loses is his daughter in the Underworld. After he loses his last bit of family (aside from Zeus since Kratos didn't know at the time Zeus was his father) which was his brother, he was one of the last of his own family. Then he lost Athena which he didn't mean to do because she got in the way. After that, he loses Pandora just to take down the Flame Of Olympus.

No wonder Kratos is always so fucking mad. He literally loses everything in front of him and everyone he's ever cared about either dies in Kratos' arms or dies just trying to get something for Kratos. This man would get along very well with Darth Vader since they're both powerful as fuck and they both lost everything.

I remember hearing this song for the first time as a little kid while watching my father playing this game, I was falling asleep because of the vocals and melody. It’s a very calm and relaxing song if you really think about it.

All evil in the world we struggle,
We stand and fight
Against the circumstances and trouble,
Yet what The Fates write
In our destiny,
The Hope sings us, her melody.
