Launching a Chinese Sky Lantern

Buy quality biodegradable lanterns now. These are what I use:

Light the fire brick with a torch. It's far easier and safer than trying to use matches or a small lighter. The best torch head for propane bottles is the Bernzomatic Trigger Start unit.

Known as Chinese Lanterns, or Sky Lanterns depending on where you live, these flying lanterns are absolutely beautiful and amazing to watch. People worry about them starting fires, but that just isn't the case if you launch them in appropriate locations -- which is almost anywhere there is no brush or trees or buildings. Many places on planet earth qualify as excellent lantern launching locations.

Once a lantern is launched, it rises on the hot air trapped within the paper envelope. When the fire source burns out, the lantern falls to earth. So the fire safety of these lanterns is ensured. Only the remains, paper and bamboo, return to earth.

There are festivals where thousands of lanterns of launched at one time. The site is incredible to behold. New Mexico has a huge lantern festival every year, as do other locations around the world.

Lol ... there are no instructions because the majority of the people who use them on a regular basis learned how to do so at their parents' knees ... lol ...
But they are really beautiful to see, especially at night.

Whatever kind of wood is used, seems to burn well. Most wood does not burn that easily. It must be kiln dried or soaked in liquid fuel. The wood wear I live does not burn easily and the wood I am writing about is not green or wet with water. Ponderosa pine and lodge pole pine in America does not burn like the wood in this video.
