Winter camping in the snow or camping in cold weather? Well why not camp with a space heater? Heating a tent with a space heater? Does that actually work? Heating you tent isn't rocket science, there are tons of options out there, if you have any questions please let me know in the comments below. This is a quick winter overlanding/camping video talking about space heaters in your tent and whether or not it works. It's a new series I'm doing so if you have suggestions for Myths to bust type them out in the comments, maybe I'll use your suggestion?

What are y’all’s suggestions for more myths to check out? What’s something y’all always hear but you think is BS… or maybe you’re curious if it’ll work?

State parks in Ohio offer off season rates, and while the water may be turned off, the electric sites are still operating electric. This means with an extension cord rated for whatever wattage heater you are running, you will be able to run an electric heater, and have the campground to yourself more or less

Electric space heaters are notoriously inefficient, but I was curious how they would work with a battery pack like that. Thanks for the video! Looking forward to the next heater video.

I've been using that exact small black Honeywell heater, and I plug it into one of those old manual Christmas light timers with the push/pull timing adjustment. It only has adjustments in 30 minute increments though. But it lets me have it run for 30 minutes, and shut off for 30, that's my usual setting.
Occasionally I use a heated blanket too. That draws less power.
I use an insulated rooftop tent btw.

Thanks! Amazing how much electricity even the small ones draw. We should bring back the coal bed pan warmers, lol

Nice video. I have that same little heater along with an EcoFlow but haven’t tested it in winter myself yet. Interested in getting a diesel heater so I will be looking forward to seeing the rest of your series.

If your car is nearby I run a 240v inverter off the car with a fan heater in the tent. Get it heated up and then turn the car off

I use a Teton Sports Mountain Ultra 3 man tent and I use the Mr. Buddy Heater in the winter (up till mid December, early Jan) and I am more than fine. I also have a Sylvansport Go Camper and use it in that and again, I am more than comfortable. If I have shore power where I am camping, I use an intertek 3068797 ceramic heater 1500W (with thermostat) and on not so cold nights, just to keep it comfortable in the tent I will use the Intertek 3130679 Andily 500W (no thermostat, one setting, On). It also helps to have a down filled mummy bag, they are the best at keeping you warm.

We use these at my office as basically hand-heaters. They seem to just heat directly whats in front of them and I think that is how they are marketed as well.

Large heating pad uses 50w... It's all about having the heat where you need it!

Awesome test. what is your current best way to heat a tent? Im reluctant to use a buddy heater for the carbon monoxide poisoning risk, have you done an outdoor myth bust for that?

For the little Honeywell, what do you think about bringing the tent up to temp with the buddy heater and then turning the Honeywell on low and see how it maintains? I have a similar small electric heater in my ultralight trailer. I use it to save on propane when we are hooked up or running on generator.

Hi, I just tried the same little heater with my Eco flow 2 and I had it in my living room and it worked for under one hour just !! Then the Eco flow two battery died!
So I was testing it for using in a tent for this weekend 🙃
Sadly I know now that it won’t work.
We’ll have to bundle up lol

I have been thinking of using a white gas catalytic heater like the ones Coleman makes as aa tent heater. I've used them years ago and I can't remember how long a tank lasts but it worked really well but I really don't know how long ? I don't know if two would be too much depending on the size of the area being heated but two would be worth trying for colder weather.

When you do the heated blanket review, please do it with the blanket under you, and another review with the blanket over you.

How about 12 volt dc heater straight off a 12 volt battery? Wouldn't that be more efficient?

I always get a winter campsite with electricity and run a mini space heater ( a little smaller than the honey ) and it works great in my two person heater. I face it towards my queen blow up mattress and it heats that up as well as the tent all night long. Much safer than a gas heater!
