Indians interested in Sunak's politics like he is our next door neighbor, please grow up. He is loyal to Britain and not to India !! Going by your logic of origin all of humanity would be fiercely loyal only to Eastern Africa and not your current country !!

Suella Braverman reappointment was the under table meeting

Everytime all these type meet in that House, if hard work and money is everything for Britain, they should pull out a hundred Pounds out each of their pockets, each and every time they all meet, and place it all on that center table. Otherwise it shows no GDP nor production being committed to. And simply bouts of rhetoric.

There is a thing you have to understand about her and people like Rishi and Suella: They are actually proud of the British Empire, because unlike people like us in India and elsewhere, the British Empire actually helped their families a lot.

She (and Rishi Sunak, Priti Patel as well) is from a unique community: Indians sent to East Africa (Kenya, Uganda - not South Africa), who were then treated as British citizens once those countries gained independence and were allowed to settle in UK.

The reason why this is significant is two fold: one, their ancestors were not taken as slaves to East African colonies, they were educated and taken as managers for the white overlords (so while they were inferior to the whites, they were still in the same class: higher than blacks).

While as managers and low level bureaucrats in Africa, they gained a lot of wealth and the enmity of the local populations (who saw them as oppressors).

Then came the second blow: dictators like Idi Amin persecuting people of Indian descent. While India did nothing to help them (in their view), UK jumped in and took them in as British Citizens (they were educated and had some wealth).

They were then groomed as a long term conservative party voters (because conservative governments had helped them) as opposed to direct immigrants from India (who are Labour voters in general).

This is why she and her ilk don't like Indian immigrants (because they are different), and consider themselves citizens of the British Empire (because they have benefited from it).

Her lived experience is completely different from other Indian immigrants.

Hope this puts a perspective on their politics.

Finally: I am neither endorsing nor denouncing her or her statements, just helping set a context to understand where these come from. This is not a political post.

Very weird. When Rishi was announced as the winner, the chat went bonkers with flags of India. It was disconcerting to see people take this as a "win" for another country. I thought it was very inappropriate. I'm American. How do British people feel?
