First, you have to approach one of the 6 Oil Marketing Company like Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum or Hindustan Petroleum. You can wait for a tender or apply directly on the Oil Marketing Company’s website.

In order to start a Petrol Pump, you need to have 17 gunthas or approximately 17,000 square feet of land to use as the pump. Then you need to sign a 29 year contract with the Oil Marketing Company that the land cannot be used for anything except the petrol pump for 29 years.

Once you sign the contract, you have to build the canopy, underground tanks, roads and everything else needed for the pump which should cost about 1-2 crores.

Now you have your own petrol pump.

Petrol pump business profit comes with huge petrol and diesel volume sales. Second you should have extra wealth or fund to invest in purchasing a petrol or diesel from a petroleum company. Bank loan or bank edfs is not sufficient during extra petrol or diesel load purchase. Petrol pump owner will face huge loss of 2 to 5 lakhs if price of petrol and diesel goes down if you have have more stock at that time. Third you will find difficult to get good staff for petrol pump business because there salary is around Rs15000. If you select bad employee then he will make your life as a hell. For example he will shout at the customers or make unnecessary seen. If you try to remove him then his local union will create trouble or he will take you to the court. Fourth customer will put wrong allegations to you that he is not getting good mileage or his car or bike meter didn't go up after filling petrol or diesel. Some Customer will fight with your worker for time pass or post YouTube or WhatsApp messages or video to spoil your reputation. Last if you to keep manager for your business. He will steal lot of money from your daily today business slowly in such a manner that you will never catch him or it will be late when l you will catch him. If sales is low then your company sales manager will shout at you. Company will not provide noozle or swiping machine for customer payment sometimes. Most of the times you will have to pay for it which is infact company duty to provide it to you. Price of one nozzle is minimum Rs 3500.
