Flite Test - Fokker Triplane - REVIEW

This week Flite Test finally releases it's super secret, long withheld, review of the HobbyKing Fokker Triplane. This plane has been teasing us from the background of other episodes for some time now. Josh and Josh give the low down on this not so PNP airplane. They give you the tips on what to fix to make it a puppy dog (Josh Scott, insert ARF here...) of a park flyer. Josh Bixler takes it for a test flight at the end of the show. Considering it has no canopy to lose, this should be one of his best on camera flights yet, right? Oh, and to keep the director happy, subscribe, subscribe, subscribe.

HIGHER! THE KING OF THE SKY, HE'S FLYING TOO FAST AND HE'S FLYING TOO HIGH!
HIGHER! AN EYE FOR AN EYE! THE LEGEND WILL NEVER DIE!

Ending a landing with your prop in the dirt and your tail in the air is a very "scale" kind of landing for the Fokker, actually! So... good job, I guess?

"This is the first Fokker ever built. We call it the Mother Fokker"

My favourite aircraft of all time. I have built a few scratch built models over the years and in the new year want to scale up and build an RC version

The original DR1 was a tricky witch to land.  The plane actually has 3 and a half wings.  The airfoil between the wheels was wing surface.

I'd say it's sum crazy Fokker!

Some Genius guy in 1916, made a device/gear that made the guns synchronize. so they could setup the machine gun to shoot in between the propellers, it's pretty amazing.

Machine guns were syncronized on some ww1 planes so the gun only fired when the prop was out of the way. On some planes, they put the guns up high above the prop. One others the props were in pusher config to deal with that issue. I did even see one where the back side of the prop had metal inserts to protect the prop from bullets. That was prior to syncing. I wonder if the pilot ever got hit with those fragments? :)

As for the landings, the high cg caused balance problems on the real DR1

Very honest review, great job guys!

Hi all. I would be tempted to try adding a little washout to the top wing tips. How one does that on a foam plane I have no idea yet. But it might cure that nasty tip stalling tendency. I am building a fast build old speedster kit at the moment.

enjoyed that vid.  Hey a good alternative is the Parkzone Albatros dv biplane.  PZ really has it nicely dialled to be truly PlugNPplay.  Similar skill needed but it lands more easily. Equally attractive red and cream Red Baron paint scheme.  I have been FPVing mine all year (BCSaltchucker on V imeo).

One of the big companies needs to re-release a decent Fokker Dr-1 Triplane & Sopwith Triplane range - maybe with 1st person cameras and dogfight laser combat capabilities if they're feeling fruity...

Sorry to dredge up this REALLY old video, but i had to come here after watching the boneyard challenge for the sixth time. It is SOO obvious that you were paid to say nice things about this plane, haha. Bix HATED it.

Looks like a fun airplane but like every single ww1 plane it's notorious for nosing over on any landing, it takes a skilled pilot to land those plans and even then you'd be lucky to land it correctly most of the time

Could you please design the Fokker E.III? It's also a very sexy plane to watch in the sky!

I think I need to add this plane to my fleet. If for anything, to match my callsign.
