Sony’s PS6 Tech Breakthroughs: Were They Secretly Demoed?

There have been rumors circulating that an early version of the next gen PS6 console was shown to developers, but was it really? In this video, we examine not only the leaks that Sony demoed the Playstation 6 to select devs, but also how Sony are already prepping developers for the shift to PS6 hardware. We also dive into how Sony are planning to WIN the battle for the next gen consoles. Of course, as important as the hardware specs are of the Playstation 6 (and Xbox next gen, or NextBox, if you prefer), improvements not only to the architecture but also to the feature set are crucial for the success of the console.

We've already seen Sony expand with PSSR being on the PS5 Pro, but there are rumours that we could see a big push towards machine learning for improved AI of NPCs, and much much more. Join us as we examine all the latest news on the highly anticipated PS6 console.

Sony contributed their own research to the project. They trust Lisa Su. Back in the day, Sony went to IBM for help with the PS2 Cell processor, and Lisa Su was head of that group at IBM.

I disbelieve the PS6 was shown a TGS. Sounds like misinformation to distract from the PS5 Pro.

Well! Paul! You also seem to be unaware that platforms ALWAYS present advanced next gen designs to select developers.Normally in the form of a pc tower with some projected specs….

This is a good reason to skip PS5 PRO and wait for PS6, hopefully it has a CD drive and is backward compatible.

I doubt the PS6's GPU will be any faster than the upcoming RTX 5080 if Sony plans to keep the launch price reasonable for the mainstream market ($499 to $599 USD). RTX 5080 levels of rasterization and RT performance (assuming 5% to 10% faster than a 4090) will probably mean about a 2.5x to 3x increase over the PS5 Pro, which seems about right to me. The PS5 is about a 2.5x increase over the PS4 Pro in GPU and a 3x increase in CPU.

So in a nutshell, if you already own a 4090 or plan on getting a 5080 paired with a fast CPU and 32GB of DDR5 ram, you'll have something that is probably approximate in game performance to a hypothetical PS6. Of course Sony will probably throw in some secret sauce software that is AI based that complements PSSR to make the console "punch" above its weight and perform better than it should.

TLDwW: Thanks…interesting but glad it is not super technical although I think we should take this with a truckload of salt.

It's too early for this news... I don't even have a PS5 yet. 😭 I decided to build a PC instead. I'll get a PS5 sometime next year.

You can't sell bad games or DEI remakes/rehashes. Even if its 8k upscaled. Sony needs to relocate PS HQ to Japan away from California.

I remember thinking that the PS5 was launching well after the next gen chips were coming out, and, I think, right around the time the 4th or 5th gen chips were going to be launched. i was saying that maybe they should have bumped to the newer chips.

The 9th gen is the most boring ever. They need to bring the same quality we had at 6th gen. The games nowadays have huge maps, 80+ hours of content and this is not what we want. We want quality over quantity. Maybe the main story could have 20 hours for regular games, RPGs could be longer, fighting games could have the option of unlocking new characters by playing and not paying, etc. The costs of development is increasing, but is not consumer's problem

Graphics performance of gaming console is nearly saturated. 8K is meaningless to human eyes. 4K 120Hz is practical limit of gaming graphics, which will be easily archived in PS6. Ray tracing is not worth it. AI NPU will be must. 8 core CPU is more than enough. So not much hardware innovation in PS6. mostly usual well expected incremental improvement like 32GB GDDR7.
