What we thought about the Food in Pittsburgh...

Today we're sharing what we thought about the food in Pittsburgh, and trying many popular Pittsburgh foods and restaurants for the first time! Pittsburgh still has that gritty, industrial past, however, as foodies can attest, it’s also cultivated quite the culinary scene. One might argue Pittsburgh stacks up against spots in more well-known travel destinations.

Pittsburgh’s foods tend to be the gut-busting, comfort-cuisine variety. They’ve stood the test of time, and are still beloved by locals and visitors alike. Reflective of the city’s immigrant population — past and present — no trip to Pittsburgh is complete without trying at least a few of these Steel City staples. And so we ventured out to try a few ourselves.

Pittsburghs food scene is a-lot more diverse than burgers, fries, and your typical items you can get at quick service type restaurants. The Japanese food is awesome, Nigerian, Thai, Indian, Italian, Polish, German. So many choices and will take a long time to go through them all. Also, Pittsburgh has a-lot of fine dinging options with some of the best buildings for restaurants. One of my favorite fine dining is called the grand concourse (you can get lunch and other items here as well). It was built from an old 1900’s grand train station. I put Pittsburghs food scene on par if not better than Phillys, thats for sure.

Most Pittsburghers say Primantis is "okay" because they been there like a 100 times. It is probably one the best "signature" food that is synonymous with a city, and I tried them all as I travelled a lot. Skip the steak and get any other sandwich and stick to the original in the strip and most out of towners rave about it.

As a Pittsburgher, on your next visit if you like really good subs, I recommend another Pittsburgh staple: Peppi's! The sandwiches are terrific.

I've traveled the 3hr 20min trip to Pittsburgh just to eat. Love the food down there.

Something really cool about Penn Brewery is that there are lagering caves still there that were dug into the side of Troy Hill in the 1860s. It's how they cooled the beer before refrigeration. The caves are a constant 55 degrees.

Lawrenceville has a lot of great options too. So many sides left to be explored!

Oh man, pierogis are the best part of Pittsburgh. S and D’S In the strip district is my favorite. One place I went to even had a pierogie gyro, haha. Pamela’s is a tourist trap! It’s where all the college parents go with their kids(me included years ago). Dorstop in dormont is the best imo.

I had no idea there were so many craft breweries in Pittsburgh. I recently Had good beer & food at Hofbrauhaus on the South Side in Pittsburgh. Good food also at Roland’s in the Strip District. Loved the gourmet milkshakes at the Milkshake Factory near University of Pittsburgh. Loved this video. I wish I came across it last week while vacationing in Pittsburgh.

Top tier travel vids. Thanks for the showcase! Perogis are tasty but I love how you went out of your comfort zone and winged it! Worth the rain check! If you like empanadas, meat pies, gyoza, or ravioli, you’d like perogi.

I feel like for breakfast foods, it’s easier to rate for vibe than taste haha (edit, that mimosa flight looked fun!)

Nice video and some great shots of Pittsburgh. I'm sorry that your experience at Pamela's was just alright. It must've been a rare off day. It's my favorite and was recently rated the #1 breakfast in PA as well as the #1 diner. The next time that you're there, you've got to go to La Gourmandine Bakery. My favorite one is in Mt. Lebanon. They're owned and operated by a French couple. Take a look at their website.

Go to authentic old school restaurants or very old school run down places! Go to suburbs! Those hipster places are Pittsburgh but the best part of it is it holds our history from every culture! Try big Jim's, the hunky club, Vinnie pies, or any place in the square, strip district, or Forbes Ave!

I've found that a lot of the "popular" food places people often suggest in Pittsburgh are very basic, and honestly overrated. But there are some absolute gems that are BOMB like Oak Hill Post or many Asian-style restaurants that don't get the attention they deserve!!!

If you ever come back you have got to check out Iron Born Pizza!
