Strunk became a folk hero in Maine and in 1970 narrowly lost the election for Senate seat in the state legislature. He was also a private pilot and purchased a 1941 Fairchild M62-A. On October 5, 1981, [3] he suffered a heart attack just after take-off in the aircraft at Carrabassett Valley Airport, in Maine. The plane flipped over, falling some 300 feet, killing him instantly along with his passenger, Dick Ayotte, a long-time friend and local businessman. Strunk was 45 years old. -Wikipedia

It's a wonderful thing to be lovestruck...so smitten with someone that it lasts a lifetime... inspiring an undying devotion to that someone though passed away...comfort to be found still in the traditions they had as a couple.

From what I've read, this song was played on the surface of the moon. When he sang it on "Laugh In, " he had a moon surface background.

Wow. Never seen you get this emotional over a song. It’s all good 👍

Thank you for reacting to this song. Those who have heard it never forget, but it's not getting shared for new generations. For another "forever" song without the sadness, listen to Twelfth of Never by Johnny Mathis, which has lots of ways of saying forever.

this song reminds me of my grandparents and parents, and aunts and uncles . strong, simple love for each other . for some reason this song takes me back to all of them .

Although I was old enough to remember this song, the only time I ever heard it was probably in the early 90s on a oldies radio station where they counted down the top 40 songs from that week 20 some odd years earlier. I've never heard it again until today but I totally remembered the story and how it ended.
