This Video demonstrates how to upgrade type 7/0 passwords to Type 6 AES encryption.
Type 6 Encryption replaces service-password encryption and will encrypt present and future plaintext (0) and type 7 encrypted passwords, however, it will not encrypt enable password or enable secret.

Might need to do this on my network. See if I can automate it all. Thanks Seth!

Thanks for the video. I have actually been stuck with type 6 passwords encrypted that prior engineers did not note anywhere and now I am building g some new routers and wanted to upgrade them to type 6.

Question I have though, is will it change everything that you created the type 6 password to that password? Like is your tacacs key/password you configured as well the the local login now that same encrypted password? Or can you still keep them separate?

Good video. Really appreciate that. What will happen if we wanted to change Key for password encryption later? Would that impact VPN pre-shared key encrypted using earlier password encryption key?

exactly what I needed to know after getting that message about 0, 5 and 7 being depreciated.

Do you know if we can copy the config to another switch using the same password 6, do I just need to type "password encryption aes" only since the key string will be the same?
