Nice work, but if you want meaningful readings from your multimeter, use the 'ohms' range, not the diode range. On the diode test range the meter will measure the voltage across the winding which doesn't really tell you much. On the ohms range you'll be able to get accurate resistances of each winding. Then you'll be able to compare resistances and get an idea of which windings may be faulty. You could have used this method on the armature instead of using the growler.
Use the diode range when testing junction volt drops of diodes, ~0.65V for silicon diodes, about 1.8V for red, green and yellow LEDs, ~2.5V for white and blue. BTW, I'm an electronics engineer ;-)
