After hurricane Berly I have my own mini microgrid. EcoFlow power solar generators, trifuel generator and a Honda 2200i generator. 400watt solar suit case panels. I have backups for my backup. I spent time teaching myself how to safely operate my generators. Had my electrician install a 50 amp outlet and breaker box inlet. Electrician did a trial run with me until I was able to hook up my generator to my home without error. Had a soft start installed on my ac unit, so my trifuel generator can easily power my whole house. I am still planning to add more upgrades so that I can run my trifuel with natural gas. But for now I feel comfortable with the steps I have taken to ensure I am able to power my home.

If I had the financial access without borrowing I would install solar panels with battery storage, and NOT be grid tied!

What is the size of 'more Texans'.

The power issues in Texas would be easily fixed if they would link up with the Southwest Power Pool which powers 10 neighboring states. During the winter of '21, those states in the SPP did not have widespread outages.

So unreliable. How in the world ERCOT can run their business like that without guarantees.

It may not be productive to delve into the reasons why our grid is susceptible to failure, as lengthy discussions often yield little tangible progress. That said, while microgrid solutions are not universally ideal, some citizens may choose to invest in solar systems if they can afford them. However, it’s essential to exercise caution when dealing with solar sales teams, as some may prioritize profit over your best interests.

Solar installations on residential properties are not suitable for every household. Factors such as shading, large trees, roof orientation, and upfront costs play a significant role in feasibility. Conduct thorough research and avoid signing any contracts until you fully understand what you’re committing to.

For those with average construction skills and access to qualified electricians, performing the installation yourself could substantially reduce costs. Before proceeding, ensure you check with local authorities, such as city offices, utilities, and homeowners’ associations (HOAs), to comply with all regulations and requirements.

Why put 1 billions dollars into a backup system when you can just fix the primary system to begin with? Governments thinking always the best.
