Matter Around Us Pure Class 9 Science - Mixture.
Topics covered in this class 9 Science video:
1. What is mixture?
2. Homogeneous mixture
3. Heterogeneous mixture
4. Solution

Mixture is two or more substances mixed with each other such that each substance can be identified easily. For example, in mixture of salt and copper filings, salt and copper filings are easily distinguishable. Some other example of mixture are, salt or sugar in water, rice flakes and raisins, etc. though sugar or salt get dissolves in water still at microscopic level salt particles are separated from water particles.
Mixture is classified in two main types homogeneous mixture and heterogeneous mixture.

Homogeneous mixture
Mixture in which particles of substances are evenly distributed making uniform composition is called homogeneous mixture. Blood, sugar solution, tea are example of homogeneous mixtures. Homogeneous mixture can have variable composition.

Heterogeneous mixture
Mixture in which particles of substance having non uniform composition is called heterogeneous mixture. Mixture of sand and water, oil and water are some examples of heterogeneous mixture.

Solution
A solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances. Solution is composed of two main component solute and solvent. For example, mixture of sugar and salt is a solution.

Suspension
Suspension is heterogeneous mixture of two or more substances. For example, sand in water.

Colloidal solution
Colloidal solution is heterogeneous mixture but appears like homogeneous mixture with naked eye. For example, milk.
