The Windows 8 Developer preview (build 8102) was the first public sneak peek into what would end up becoming Windows 8. As a public release, it had multiple pre-built apps and games, and developers could create programs using Visual Studio.

I remember testing this and how excited I was to get my hands on a copy of Windows 8 when I was a kid. Its kinda crazy looking back at it. I was just as excited when I first got to have windows 7 on my desktop. I had modded the hell out of xp to get it to look like 7. I was always obsessed with the latest and greatest. Now I find myself so nostalgic of the past

This Build of Windows 8 is one of the Best Builds. Interestingly Reversing the Build Number 8102 gives you the year 2018. This build should came out in 2018 not 2012 or 2011. Because of that

Wow, it actually has a Start button in this build. No idea why it was removed cause it’s way more user friendly than the hot corners they decided to use.

I remember seeing this back in the day and trying the Consumer Preview on my HP tablet (that I had at the time) before it died! When it did die, I replaced it with an original Surface Pro.

I really wanted to use the Windows 8 Developer Preview when Windows 7 failed me. My original plan was to install Ubuntu 8.04 from a CD, download and burn the Windows 8 DP onto a DVD and install that one, but I decided to wait for the Consumer Preview. In the meantime, Ubuntu morphed into a whole new beast as I went from 8.04 to 10.04 to 11.10 and from there it was hard for me to do a pure Windows setup. The Developer Preview was only used as a VM.

The start button reminds me of hovering the cursor over windows 8.1 start button black background with 4 colours

This build's start button doesn't really match the taskbar tbh. Either way, I LOVED this build of Windows 8!

I love the fact that if you reverse this build's number, it gives out the number 2018.

Fun Fact: Windows Beta Builds have Server Counterparts

Example:
Windows 8 build 8102 server counterpart is Windows Server 2012 build 8102.

I still don't understand why they removed start menu in the final release.
They eventually brought it back in 8.1 though.

Your video's are just awesome!
I am going to fix the WinJS dev prev apps that are used in these builds to use more modern APIs so they can be run on Windows 8-11 production builds using the production WinJS library. Labyrinth is already almost done, only the level selection needs to be rewritten.
