Magician vs Slow-Mo Camera (Skill Challenge)

It’s time to put my sleight of hand to the ultimate slow-mo test. I’ve filmed a series of magic tricks in front of my slow motion camera capturing footage at 360 frames per second (that’s 12 times slower than real-time).
Will the tricks work under such scrutiny?
Will I be exposed in slow motion?
Will I finally feel some form of validation?
Some of these questions will be answered.

For me, the joy of magic is in knowing EXACTLY how the trick is done, and still not being able to see it happen. I enjoy the skill, the planning, the artistry, the methods. And even though i have an extensive knowledge of magic, i still didn't catch you on most of the slow motion stuff. I know WHAT you did, but i didn't SEE you do it. Thats what i enjoy about magic.

At the same time, i don't tip tricks. I hate people who tip tricks to people who don't know and don't want to know. So this whole presentation was fantastic. Thank you!

Frankly, Jack, I do hope you become a big name! Your sleight of hand is so slick, the elastic band and coin change tricks fooled me even in slow motion!

Knowing how the trick is done doesn't take away from the magic at all, because even if you know how it's done it doesn't change the fact that IT STILL LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE DOING IT

The color card change one was especially smooth and convincing. The original color corner sticking out really seals the deal.

The pen through the card was really fantastic. I'd like to learn that one!

3:12 I think Penn and Teller have demonstrated that magic itself isn't just about the trick but the "story" you tell with the trick. They've created a lot of their own tricks and even reveal the mechanics behind them, but the artistry and mastery with which they do them is just so high that it's still enjoyable

I'm 100% on board with what you're saying, that seeing how the trick is done doesn't take away from it when the moves are so clean and impressive. If anything, it adds to the magic for me. Because after all, if you know nothing about magic then all tricks are the same to you and you're just going "yeah and then he sorta tricks me" but of course some moves are orders of magnitude more difficult than others, so no, not all magic is the same. Slow motion footage such as this show this beautifully!

I think maybe as I am very very fascinated by how things work that seeing how the trick is done doesn't take away any of the magic for me. It just makes me appreciate the skill more. And I get more enjoyment out of knowing how something works than just seeing it happen.

there are tricks that are not very impressive when you know the secret, but good old sleight of hand ones could never be ruined by knowing the tech simply because there is so much to it, but only a tech, but the execution as well as overall performance and work for a public. Personally I always appreciate even basic trick if it executed properly, always nice to witness and I am impressed by skill and amount of work was put into it. The fact that even high fps camera sometimes can't catch a move is just mindblowing for me! Human eye don't have ANY chance! Brilliant!

The 2 of you together is hilarious. Some of your sleight of hand is amazing. I know how a lot of these tricks are done and I still can't see you do it. I'm one who appreciates the skill more than believing there is actual magic happening. I enjoy the art form more than the wonder of the wool being pulled over my eyes. Also you have a good name.

Do this with The Slow Mo Guys. 100, 000 fps - that would be interesting

4:59 in slow motion is trivial when you know how to solve the cube

That rubics cube one is so slick. There's gotta be some hidden technique he uses if it works on any cube.

The skill of a magic trick is more enjoyable than the "secret" behind the trick. Even knowing how a trick is done if I can't see it while looking for it that's still super impressive. Like the pen through the card I know how it's done but it always gets me initially.

Am i the only person who actually loves knowing how the trick is done? I have an extreme appreciation for the dexterity thats required as well as the creativity that goes into making the trick. Know how the trick is done has never spoiled the beauty of the actual trick itself. Even the most basic tricks. The only thing that ruins it is if its performed poorly
