Guess he learned that “Love thy neighbor” applies to everyone, not just straight cisgender Christians. I’d love to see a future episode where they experience everything they were sheltered from in childhood; the Flanders kids becoming teenagers would be a good vehicle to explore religious rebellion, where they start to see how people twist the meaning of their religious teachings to justify being hateful.
