What Is World Refugee Day?

On World Refugee Day, an internationally recognized day that is marked annually on June 20, VOA looks at the differences between refugee, asylum-seeker and an internally displaced person, or an IDP.

According to the U.N. Refugee Agency data from 2020, at least 79.5 million people around the world have been forced to flee their homes. Among them are nearly 26 million refugees, about half of whom are under the age of 18.
