How we manage our laundry as a family of 8

Our laundry system as a family of 8 🧺

Everyday: Load washing machine at a time most convenient for you then at some point before the day ends move load from washer to dryer. No putting away clothes, no sorting, just load up to washer then dryer

Day 2: Move from dryer to sorting area (couch, bed, etc.) “What about wrinkles?” I restart my dryer for 15 minutes to get the wrinkles out. I know this method may not work for others but it’s allowed me to stay on top of the laundry consistently. Remove from dryer and sort. Sorting should be quick, no folding. Just create piles for each person in the house then move those piles to their room.

Day 3 (or 2 if feeling ambitious) Put away clean laundry.

Once clothes are put away repeat day 2, this keeps the cycle going! (Remember you are throwing a load in the washer everyday)

Before we got this down we had PILES all over the place. It was chaotic and we needed a change. Some weeks the piles come back but it’s nice to have this system in place as it allows us to get back to it quickly!

Props to your kids for knowing the owner of each of the pieces of clothing!

So I follow this mom of 17 and her hubby is an engineer and he collected data from their laundry routine and sorting was the most time consuming. So they all have their own laundry hampers and their laundry is to never be mixed and they are all responsible for doing their own laundry, the littles have an older sibling helper but are still involved. I've been doing this system for 5 years now and will never turn back.

Yes as a night shift nurse I have been saying this! More people, if possible, should take advantage of nighttime. Whether it’s vacuuming, cleaning, grocery shopping - then you have more of the weekend free!

This is actually SUCH a great video and routine. It teaches domestic responsibility to the older kids and younger kids in small and easy to handle amount and makes them really feel like they're an active part of the family, and its easier for the parents. This is GREAT you're doing GREAT

I love how you still poke fun at the whole laundry controversy. Low key I find it hilarious

For anyone curious about the “iykyk” laundry reference in this video here is the scoop

About 2 years ago I documented the labor and birth of my fifth child for educational purposes. My whole account is dedicated to discussing the realities of pregnancy, postpartum, and motherhood in an encouraging way ❤️ So with this documentation I showed myself in extreme nesting mode doing laundry and people lost it!

When my labor started I wanted to stay distracted. The best thing I can do for that is to clean and feel like I am in control of something during a time where I am not really in control of anything 😂 It was 10pm and our one year old woke up crying. My husband of course took care of him so I wouldn’t be trying to console a crying baby while in labor. When my husband went back to the nursery, I saw the laundry and thought, “That has to get done NOW!” So I did it. My husband does laundry everyday but with 7 people there is ALWAYS a pile to be done no matter how on top of it we are.

I literally thought nothing of it and knew a lot of moms with multiples could relate to the strong need to clean while in labor 😂 Well, a lot of younger people got wind of the video on the clock app and lost their minds. I was stitched thousands of times and then the media got hold of it. Tim and I were asked to appear on different talk shows but we denied the invite🙈

I like this system! I also love that you give your kids a little time to tackle the task of putting things away ❤ I feel like it’s a good way to teach time management

This is actually REALLY helpful! My boys are 6&7 and having them sort in the morning then put away at a different time breaks it up enough I think they’ll need less…encouragement 😂 iykyk

This is how I manage laundry in my house too! A load a day and separating and sharing the duty are key 👌🏼

Love it! We do something similar as a family of 5, except we don’t sort clothes. Each person has their own laundry hamper in their closet, and an assigned day of the week to wash and dry their laundry (as well as tidy their room). Then the next day is the day they must put their laundry away. I usually help with switching to the dryer and my ones younger than 8 to put their clothes away. M-W are my 3 kids’s laundry days, then Thursday I do mine and my hubby’s, Fridays I do towels/rags/sheets(usually alternating).

I loooove seeing logic like this! Everything you’ve worn thought the day gets washed over night, then if young kids have accidents of if your need to do bedding do it in the day. I also never iron. Wait until you might need to wear something that needs ironing before you look for it.

Everything that needs washing? Throw it down the stairs and put it in the washer as you walk past it. Washing baskets are places to store dirty things in your house- what’s that about? Just put it in the wash!

I love how it’s a team effort and it teaches them responsibility.

My brother in laws mom has a system where if a kid wants to wear a peice of clothing before she does all the laundry, there’s a basket on the laundry room where they can put that piece of clothing, and it’ll be washed before everything else. Helps keep everyone happy and their favorite garments from being lost or ruined

I have 5 little ones! I wash clothes once a week, honestly I put it up whenever I can get to it 🫣! But they do all help out or sometimes I’ll just fold and put up everyone’s clean clothes myself. Hopefully as they get older and more independent they can wash their OWN clothes 🙏🏿😂! Thanks for sharing momma ❤️!
