BioDiesel or a Diesel Engine that was designed to run with thicker Oils such as Straight Vestigial Oil (SVO) would provide more Torque. Plus be capable of running on Regular Diesel Fuel as well in a pinch.

Very disappointing explanations. It isn't a hybrid engine, it is an engine designed for use with a hybrid transmission. That is, one that accepts ICE and/or Battery power as inputs. A motor does not produce power, it converts between battery power and wheel power. The "Parallel System" at 1:40 is insignificantly inaccurate (engine and motor powers are combined in the transmission). But the "Serial System" ("Series" is a noun, "Serial" is an adjective) is wrong. The battery is not part of the path, it is a side branch. The PCU belongs where "BATTERY" is drawn; it adjusts the power from the generator, charging or discharging the battery, to send the right amount of electrical power to the motor.

But what I was looking for was the Parallel-Serial system. I'm assuming it works like Toyota's Power Split Device. It isn't "distributed to the most efficient path, " the balance in the distribution is used to control engine RPM.

I would like to see this new hybrid engine in a Outback.

It's Kitamoto, Saitama. Not Satama. Excellent presentation. Looking forward to seeing what they actually produce. I'm still driving my 2005 Forester as all the new ones suck (Solterra an epic suck and joke) with TCV (that's an epic DUH!) or EyeSight something I would never use (why pay thousands extra for tech you're not going to use and is irritating), and if you do need driver assist you shouldn't be driving anyway, take a bus, ride or use Uber. Thankfully they did address the CTV issues...finally.

"Better" than what? I presume better than the original Crosstrek hybrid, and their ICE alone engines. The 2.5 Boxer needs help with torque and HP, as it is long in the tooth, and becoming overwhelmed as the vehicles continue to get heavier. This might be the answer. As noted, the Boxer is not going to be the mpg champion, but if it allows them to continue with the Symmetrical AWD, it might be among the best AWD systems in a hybrid.
