Can we just talk about sue pea for a second. She was locked in the room and the key was in the sealed room. She was never going to escape.

Lydia: If you know her weak point you will see that the window is broken possibly she slipped and broke the window causing her to fall and die

Herny and Orville: According to them they play hide and seek and as the game seems eternal they possibly died for wanting to win the game or they got stuck in their hiding place

Madame Clairvoya: I have a theory that she summoned Bogmire by accident and Bogmire killed her.

I always speculated about all of these when I was a kid and I still do. I wonder if the ghosts in the mansion all lived together at one point or maybe they’re from different places and are all in this illusionary mansion together.

Personal Theory
I just name every headcanon death I was able to come up for these ghosts. If I don't mention a name that is because I couldn't think of anything.


Neville: Overworked
He discovered the joy of books only in his afterlife, which means that he probably didn't had much free time and was a hard working father. The Work stress eventually got to him and his body just gave up. Now he is free of work and enjoys his time to relax and unwind by reading books.

Lydia and Chaunsey: Failed Childbirth
Lydia met her demise trying to give birth to chaunsey. Neither of them made it, thus Chaunsey being born a ghost.

Shivers: Household Accident
He fell down a ladder or a flight of stairs, or was crushed by furniture while he was searching for the will of his master to see if he was included in it.

Mr Luggs: Heart attack
Rich man with boundless appetite till his heart couldn't take it anymore. Now he is working overtime to see if the same can happen with Ghost Hearts. Gluttony at its finest.

Spooky: Starvation
When his owner passed away nobody looked after him, probably because he was a scary guard dog.

Biff Atlas: Choked by Weights
Benchpresses are deadly if you can't handle the weight. He overtrained until his muscles gave out and he was choked by steelbar pressing down on his chest.

Nana: Old
Old

Henry and Orville:
The both of them were playing hide and seek and decided to hide in a box or large chest that jammed shut and they could no longer get out while they have hidden themselves so well that nobody could find them until it was to late.

Uncle Grimmly: Household accident
He prefers the dark and likes scaring people so he spend most of his time in the cellar or other areas that are not well lit. Somewhere in the dark he tripped and hit his head either at the bottom of the stairs of against one of the shelf's.

Sue Pea: Canon Death nothing to add here

Sir Weston: Iceshock/Drowning
He fell into a frozen lake or river during his trips to the outside hence why he is completely frozen. He was encased in Ice.

Everyone was alive at some point, maybe not bogmire, except for Chauncey, he is confirmed to be born dead, that would technically make him a poltergeist

Lydia: Got makeup in her eyes and fell out the window
The Floating Whirlindas: Were murdered
Shivers: Accidentally set himself on fire
Melody: Shivers accieently set her on fire while trying to flirt with her

Biff atlas: Got crushed by a dumbell
Nana: old.
Miss Petunia: Got second degree burns from her shower water
Madame Clairvoya: Was killed by people who didn't believe her predictions
Henry and Orville: Suffocated in a hiding spot
Slim Banshot: He tried teaching Sue Pea how to play pool, but she ended up throwing a pool ball at him in the gut
Uncle Grimmly: Suicide
Clockwork soldiers: were possesed by the creator of them, and possibly other spirits as well
Jarvis: Decapitated for stealing jars, then stuffed his head inside his favorite jar
Sir Weston: Froze to death
Vincent Van Gore: The Last family member to die, died to the rest of the family

Lydia I think died having something to do with her hair and the window, perhaps she had her hair caught in the window and probably scalped her leading to her to probably bleeding to death. Or perhaps fell on the window, and probably got glass around her neck region (is why the window is broken)

I think for Lydia you could do extreme allergy to makeup, for Henry and Orville you could do threw toys at each other, and for Madame Clairvoya you could do shattered a fortune ball.

I think Nana accidentally strangled herself with the very long scarf she was knitting that she never finished in life.

Chauncy is the most confusing. If he was born a ghost, does that mean he was born sometime after Lydia was dead? How was he a year old, then?

Madame Clairvoya: I heard a theory somewhere that Bowser killed her when she wouldn't do a fortune reading for him or wouldn't cooperate with his plans. It might explain why she seemed so horrified to discover Bowser within the Mansion during her final reading for Luigi.
I don't think she died by summoning Bogmire, because the description for Bogmire is that he's a product of the Mansion's fear and despair, suggesting that he came into existence from the Mansion itself.

Spooky: Sadly, I think he starved to death due to neglect or because his owner died and there was no one to feed him. It might explain why he was so eager to bite Luigi's leg off. You'll notice as well that there was no water or food in his dish either.

The fact they just casually confirmed a 7 year old died in her sleep in a MARIO SPIN-OFF will never not astound me

Theory time:
Lydia: Judging by the fact she never leaves the mirror unless vacuumed, it's safe to say she probably died trying to maintain a "Beautiful" body, whether it's starvation, toxic makeup, etc.

Clairvoya: Summoned Bogmire and was slain. Or saw King Boo's evil schemes and was taken out by king boo himself, given that she seemingly hates king boo and doesn't hurt Luigi whatsoever.

Henry and Orville: Victims of child negligence. to the point of starvation or even getting killed by their own games due to no one supervising them.

Kind of funny how they treat van Gore as French but van Gogh (the artist he’s based on) was Dutch.

Would be cool if we had a boss battle with a Dutch Giant van Gore.

Also, if anyone wonders how van Gogh died in real life. He suffered from borderline, psychosis, and other mental issues and finally shot himself in the chest with a revolver and later died in hospital.
