It’s not the first time a segment on Fox News gets the president tweeting. But it’s the first time Trump claims South African farmers are being mass-murdered.

This myth was fueled by white supremacists for years before it surfaced in a presidential tweet.

More than two decades after the end of apartheid, South African farmland owners remain a predominantly white group. Fringe groups in South Africa and the United States say these white farmers are targeted and killed at disproportionately high rates. There’s no evidence for this claim, experts say, but it feeds the white-supremacist agenda by stoking racial resentment and division."

Land reform was instrumental to the development of European economies coming out of the Middle Ages. Once they wrested (at least some) control of land from the nobility, they were able to use it far more efficiently for expanding cities and increasing agricultural output.

You can explain all you want, but they will never understand anything you say about this situation. I hope that the indigenous people are given a fair share of their land back, it's no more then right. The land was taken and the indigenous people were thrown into poverty, disease and despair, when it was enough for everybody. Colonialism was one of the most heartless systems, that killed, tortured people who just wanted to live a decent life like everyone else. These wrong things have to be rectified sooner or later and hopefully it can be done in a peaceful way. What really sets me off about this is, not only did they take the land, they have the whole world thinking that these people are less then human and the right wing through fear and injustices are trying to continue this practice, but we're not in the world that started this injustice and we're pushing back for justice.

Let's not forget the ultimate root of these issues: If colonial European powers had left these people alone, instead of invading their lands, we wouldn't even be having these discussions.

This kind of land reform has been in practice by states since the 17th century. It’s almosy always been prompted by big land owners just not utilizing land efficiently (or at all) resulting in not enough food production or the destruction of housing, etc.

Land reform can be a very good thing when handled right. It worked well in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan - and in China in the reform period.
