Remembrance Day - Mark Knopfler

A Remembrance Day slideshow using Mark Knopfler's wonderful "Remembrance Day" song from the album 'Get Lucky' (2009). The early part of the song conveys many British images, but I have added some very Canadian images also which fit with many of the lyrics. The theme and message is universal... 'we will remember them'.

This is by far one of the most moving pieces Knofpler ever wrote imo,
in the long run, it gives the same 'idea' as Brother In Arms, but this feels much more personal.
To be honest, Mark, , you are a legend!

This song makes me cry. I wouldn't have it any other way.

In memory of my dad Robert Donald Brewer who fought in WWII for Canada he was only 18 years old. He would have been 98 this year. 🌺

Mark Knopfler is one of the best musicians in the world. This song proves that claim. So sad; so beautiful... a perfect Remembrance Day song.

Such a compassionate soul you are Mark in music and in every way! Prayers for your love to be fulfilled in this vale of tears where we live on Earth. :( .

This hits hard. Mark honors all the fine young men by name. Such loss!

Lots to say about this song.

- It magically allows people like me to get a glimpse of, and remember, what we have not endured
- The sound of his voice ❤️
- The guitar licks 😊
- The powerful lyrics ❤️‍🔥
- The ability to capture the voice of the English people by rooting the song into the modern world 🌎
- The sticky chorus which is the key message of the song 🎵
- The emotions of the children vocals 🧒 👶
- The extremely emotional guitar solo 🎸(MK branded! No surprise!)

This song represents very well Mark Knopfler artistic performance, inspiration and talent. He was a guitar hero up to the mid-nineties but he always was a hard fan of melody and meaningful songs. In time MK became a fully accomplished song writer (I would say a gifted middle class poet too) with the additional gift of being a guitar genius and a highly performing song producer.

I love this song and I love MK!

We all should remember.

All gave some. Some gave all.

None came home unwounded.

Dear Mark : have been your ardent fan since 1981...!! Have keenly appreciated how you have evolved in these decades.. Each tune or piece of music is indeed captivating and mind refreshing...these few words are indeed insufficient to describe your innate art and craft of music be it rock, country or any other form..your music is so very versatile...hope you stay blessed to give us your melody day on day...

I was in Australia on Nov 11 a few years ago and happened to be in a small town when I came across a Remembrance Day ceremony on the beach. Two schoolchildren were reading the poem In Flanders field the poppies grow. A truly moving experience.

I’ve watched this for years. You’ve done a fantastic job bringing life to the song with the images you’ve shown. Thank you.

At the going down of the sun we will remember them. All gave some and some gave all for our freedom. If we forget we will no longer be strong and free.
When November brings
The poppies on Remembrance Day
When the vicar comes to say
May God bless them every one
Lest we forget our sons
