2 Lakh+ Kirana Stores closed due to quick commerce? Zepto, Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart & Dev Taneja

The rise of fast delivery startups like Blinkit and Zepto has had a major impact on traditional retail in India. According to a study by the All-India Consumer Products Distributors Federation, around 2 lakh Kirana stores shut down over the past year as consumers increasingly turn to instant delivery services. This shift is particularly evident in metro cities, which account for 45% of the closures.

The report reveals that metro cities host 17 lakh stores with an average monthly sales figure of Rs 5.5 lakh per store, while Tier 1 cities, with 12 lakh stores, have been hit hard as well. On the other hand, Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, which collectively have around 1 crore stores, saw 25% of the closures, with average monthly sales of Rs 2.5 lakh per store.
