Girl, Lapis wasn't even sure if she was good or evil

I loved Lapis, but the way they depicted her as a survivor really hurt. Pay attention to the dialog, you notice how she loved taking her anger out on Jasper, how she tricked her and knew it was bad.

I remember early fan theories about Lapis speculated based on her line "did you even wonder who I used to be?!" People quickly jumped to interpret that as Lapis being someone of incredibly high social status on Homeworld- maybe even Blue Diamond. It honestly makes me sad how quick we were to make those theories, as though Lapis being a sentient individual with thoughts and feelings and a life wasn't enough to care about. That she HAD to have been someone of a high status that others SHOULD care about her. As though we needed a reason to care, rather than just feeling empathy towards this regular gem who was kidnapped, imprisoned, and enslaved in the mirror.

Lapis is honestly one of my favorite characters and I think really defines what it’s like to have trauma change a person forever. She was never okay and never fully recovered but slowly started to mend and that’s all that matters. She took it out on a lot of people and was kinda volatile in not considering others feelings but this was because of how much pain she’d been through. I think she was pretty realistic.

I love lapis. How she acts, her personality, how she's always pretty worried and how it took her a long time till she was able to adjust to earth since she couldn't go home

I think Lapis was pretty toxic towards Peridot, I mean after they bonded. Like she literally took the entire shed with herself without any discussion with Peridot. I know she was afraid of the diamonds, but I tought she did respect her friend.

Why is it when shows want to depict abuse survivors they always go for the survivor turning into an abuser instead, only 33% of victims actually become abusers themselves. Why can’t we just get a story about a victim recovering and actually dealing with their problems

I absolutely live Lapiz I never felt like she was evil. More of a lost person trying to find a place to call home.

I found Lapis to be such a mysterious and beautiful character at first, and eventually I just loved her. People of course have those speculations saying that Lapis was such a horrible character with such a rush character development, and funny enough, I can absolutely agree as well. However if you are a huge fan of the show, you will know that the gems in the show have similar characteristics to their real life gem counterparts, such as Lapis’s character.

Lapis during the beginning, was mysterious, powerful however afraid to look for other alternatives. Her being fused with Jasper she believed she was helping Steven, as well as giving Jasper a taste of her own medicine by keeping her hostage within the fusion. Eventually Lapis took her anger out on Jasper, even with matters that did not involve Jasper. Lapis herself even admits this and clearly feels some level of guilt and even shame as she mentions that she “misses it”. Another moment was of course with Peridot and her rudeness towards her.

However did you know that with real life Lapis Lazulis, they become toxic in water. Lapis having spending weeks at the bottom of the ocean, realistically would’ve…well, made her a toxic character, poetically enough. Though of course she would’ve also hold a grudge with Peridot having that she basically kidnapped her and interrogated her.

And of course, the one fans are most upset about is her departure with the entire barn. This one there’s not much I can say rather than that being Lapis’s character showing her flaws. She’s a coward, and even when she did return, she never even apologised. I think this particular scene just wasn’t my favourite Lapis moments. Though I still really liked her character, and her change in future as you can see that she has grown within the time period of the movie and future, but you can also see that she still gets in her own head and can lose control of her emotions. Real life trauma can do that to people.

When it comes to fusions there’s no “who’s in control, ” They become one per with one mind.

I will always perceive lapis lazuli as someone who didnt want anything to do with Jasper, but saw what she was doing to others and trapped her in the fusion to make sure that she couldnt hurt anyone. Shes a very passive person and she didnt quite know how to fight for herself at that point in time. I still love her.

Lapis has been through lots of pain, and the reason why she’s so un-trusting is because of her past. When she met Steven, she was thankful for him helping her. That was the start of her trusting them. When Jasper imprisoned her, she knew right then and there she wanted revenge. Of course, she hated Peridot just as much. I think when they fused, Lapis didn’t want Jasper to be in control because she knew what she would do. She *had* to take control otherwise Jasper would cause chaos. Similar to Sugilite, as Garnet must always be in control otherwise Amethysts “wild side” would take over and cause chaos.

Lapis, being one of the few on the top of my list with Garnet, is a victim of a war she had no deal in. Being created to reform a planet, her job is never set in stone, although she is good at the end, she never really attempted to make change in the beginning. Lapis is a wonderful character with great development in the end, in all honesty, she's a wonder in the show and gives us a mystery that we all wanna solve.

A big part of lapis’s hate is that people refuse to believe that constant abuse and trauma make you think and act irrationally. Not to mention that she had been a victim for so long and the chance to finally make her abuser feel what she felt made her feel powerful. She’s put up with so much that she’s always in fight or flight mode(literally). What she did to peridot was wrong but her reaction made sense when she realized there was a possibility of her going through her trauma again and even so she was doing it with the intention of protecting her closest friend.

Personally, I just think Lapis is misunderstood and only wants to find somewhere where she can finally just have peace and calm. She spent half her time in the series literally just trying to find a home, and every time someone tried to help her with something, she’d reject the offer, probably trying to keep them safe. And, for someone who’s made by Blue Diamond; the diamond of sadness, she sure does have a lot of rage. Maybe Lapis was keeping others away so she could maintain her anger?
These are only some of my theories, but no matter what, Lapis will always be one of my favorites!
